We, The Student Government Association,

recognize that it is our inherent duty to regulate, modify, and solve the concerns of the students of the Fashion Institute of Technology. Our responsibility is to sustain and foster the college’s commitments to the students, provide and encourage student representation, and enrich the student’s cultural, social, and physical well-being.

Our Mission

The FIT Student Government Association shall serve as the governing body for all full-time and part-time undergraduate students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). The FIT SGA is committed to supporting the mission and vision of the institution and to serving the FIT student population. The FIT SGA shall represent the voice of the student body and act as an instrument to foster cooperation between students, faculty and the administration to provide an academic environment that encourages professional and academic excellence, creativity, inclusiveness, civility, sustainability, and a sense of community. Additionally, the FIT SGA supports a holistic student experience by supporting FIT clubs, organizations, and programmatic activities.

Sustainability Initiatives

  • Fabric Recycling Program: The SGA Fabric Recycling Program to date has collected 1,038 pounds of fabric and donated it to our partner GreenTree textiles who will reuse, upcycle, or recycle the fabric to keep it from the landfill.

  • Sustainability Flea Market: Hosted a flea market with numerous vendors, promoting sustainability on campus.

Student Engagement and Representation

  • SGA focused some of their efforts on reaching students through social media content, with over 40,000 views in the last 90 days of the semester and reaching 9,200 unique accounts. At the start of the semester they had 1.6k followers, and grew their viewership by 30%, reaching 2.3k followers by the end of the semester.

  • Conducted town halls to actively represent student voices.

  • Educated over 500 students on civic engagement through a voter registration initiative.

  • Civil Discourse Roundtable: Facilitated discussions on important societal issues through a civil discourse roundtable.

  • Library Cookie Event: Organized a cookie event in the library and increased student participation in the professor evaluation by 6%
